What
is Sedation Dentistry? What
is Sleep Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry and Sleep dentistry
are one and the same. Sedation dentistry allows you to
experience a virtually pain free dental visit! Imagine snoozing
off and have your dental work done. You still have control of
your own breathing and can respond to simple verbal requests. Yet
you don't feel and sense all the of the details that make a dental visit
uncomfortable for some people.
Many patients are
quite anxious when it comes to receiving necessary and comprehensive
dental care. They will avoid going to see their dentist just because
they cannot stand the "feeling of a dental office." This neglect in turn
leads them to having more severe dental problems. All of this can
be avoided with the use of sedation dentistry.
Using a carefully monitored combination
of Nitrous Oxide (commonly referred to as "laughing gas") and pills taken prior to the dental appointment, many times
patients are so relaxed that they literally fall sleep in the chair!
What's more is the next day they have very little memory of what
actually went on during their dental visit.
For
the younger or the older individuals who need extensive dental treatment,
but cannot tolerate multiple long dental visits, general anesthesia is
suggested. A qualified, licensed anesthesiologist is present
throughout the dental treatment, safely maintaining the patient in a state
of general anesthesia, while the dental team completes the necessary
treatment expediently.
Sedation dentistry can be
performed comfortably and successfully for almost everyone. To see
